Responsibility for our environment
Environmental awareness is now taken for granted as an important aspect of all sustainable corporate activities. A combination of global scarcity of natural resources and increased demand for them means that an ecologically responsible approach is going to be essential in the future.
With this in mind, we are determined to continuously upgrade our environmental performance and have therefore made environmental issues an integral part of our corporate culture. Measures to protect the environment have been introduced across the entire Group world-wide, and in particular improvements and savings have been achieved in the field of production and the use of eco-friendly products and materials. Knorr-Bremse is also taking steps to change employees’ attitudes and behavioral patterns in this respect.
Key environmental data
Knorr-Bremse documents all developments related to ecological issues within the company, recording key data on energy requirements and CO2 emissions, water consumption, waste volumes and environmentally-relevant production materials. The company then uses these figures as a basis for drawing up environmental targets and develops measures to achieve them.
Certification
Since 2001, Knorr-Bremse has been working on achieving ISO14001 certification of all its sites in the rail and commercial vehicle divisions. This international standard defines globally valid requirements for environmental management systems. Then process of worldwide certification continues apace throughout the Group, particularly at its new sites in Russia and Asia.
